The little things, it means many different things to so many people. What does it mean to you? For me, getting extra time to craft before my sweet hubby gets home is one of them. I loose track of time when I’m creating cards.
Today I challenged myself to use the TGIFC#89 colors – Peekaboo Peach (not my favorite by a long shot), Flirty Flamingo (growing on me) and Pool Party (one of my favorites) to make a card using the “Fruit Stand” DSP (also not one of my favorites, but I bought it since everyone was making such cute cards with it). Next challenge, use the FabFriday#103 template as the inspiration for my card. I usually don’t combine 2 challenges in one card because..well..it’s a challenge for me!
I usually put borders/frames around my pieces to make them pop. This 1st version, I didn’t do that and it seemed…umm..plain, boring, blah, jumbled and too busy.
So back to the drawing board to resurrect my card. I cut a smaller Pool Party square with the new Stitched Shapes framelits, restamped the greeting and popped it onto the original Pool Party piece. Much better! But the other shapes were looking too plain and since the I used the largest stitched square shape for the Pool Party piece, I used my white pen to draw stitched lines around each of the others. Finally a much better defined card. Still wish I had popped a small color frame behind the Fruit Stand DSP, but that was already glued down and not moving! So what do you think, which one is your favorite?
Here’s how I made this card. The card base is Flirty Flamingo, and I layered a 4″ x 5’1/4″ piece of the Fruit Stand DSP on top. I die cut out a 3-1/4″ square with the Square Collections framelits and was going to use that as one of my smaller layers. But it just disappeared into the background paper and so I scrapped that idea and went with the solid colors instead. The Peekaboo Peach was cut 3-1/4″ x 3″, the Pear Pizzaz piece was 3″ x 2-3/4″, and the original Pool Party piece was 2-3/4″ x 2-1/2″. The 2nd layered Pool Party piece was cut with the largest Stitched Shapes square. The little banner was 1/2″ with a small strip of the Fruit Stand paper on top. I added 3 Pear Pizzaz stars, but they don’t show up well in the photo.
So finished with this card, and time to find my next challenge to work on! BTW-here’s the supplies I used for the card:

I like them both but I’m a sucker for stitching around the edges so I’ll go with that one. I like how you used our sketch panels to highlight just a sentiment and let the DSP be the bold image! THanks for sharing at Fab Friday!

Like them both but really like the stitched shapes! Remember Janice you can stretch the shape with your big shot by only cutting a portion at a time – but I agree – bigger card layer sized framelits would’ve been awesome! Glad you shared your creation with us at TGIF!

I think your cards turned out awesome! I love the color combo of the cardstock you ended up using together – the pool party is the perfect shade of blue to complement the other colors. I have an unopened pack of the fruit stand paper sitting on my floor 🙂 I would have loved bigger framelits also – but with a little creative cutting you could almost get card-sized fronts with the squares if you wanted to try. My thought is: if you used the largest square, and covered the die partially (across the diagonal of the square) with something as thick as the cutting plate but smaller (like the diffusers people were using earlier to get partial embossing using the embossing folders), you could only cut out two of the lines to form each “corner” and then get almost a whole card front. Would take 4 passes through the bigshot and a bit of fiddling …. but seems like it might be possible!

Glad I could add some “brightness” to your day. We had torrential rains with flooding in Houston today…I guess snow would have been better since people wouldn’t have lost their homes to flood waters.
