Yesterday I shared two cards I created this past weekend for the SGGW weekend challenge. If you missed yesterday’s post, see them here. As I was cleaning up my craft table, I had a variety of small circles and hearts leftover that I had cut out from Coastal Cabana, Crisp Cantaloupe (retired Stampin’ Up! colors) and Watermelon Wonder from my friend’s 75th birthday card, see it here. I decided to create a card to use them. I cut more circles and hearts in all three colors to play around with some ideas and here’s my final card. Hmm…no circles made it to this card, but they weren’t discarded. They are siting on my craft table waiting for my next idea.
I used several different die sets for the hearts. The Crisp Cantaloupe hearts were cut with the Sweet & Sassy framelits dies; did you notice the small heart cut out from the middle of the big heart? The Watermelon Wonder heart was cut from the Love Notes framelits die and laid over another Crisp Cantaloupe heart. I added a Watermelon Wonder swirl from Swirly Scribbles for an accent. The small swirl under the large heart is part of the swirl you usually discard. I wanted an accent under the heart opening and I love the way it fit. I embossed the Whisper White with the Happy Heart folder, then turned it over for a more subtle look to my front. When I finished the card the edges of the white seemed “bare” so I added two pieces of Coastal Cabana thick twine. I would have wrapped it and tied a bow, but I’d already glued my pieces down so I had to improvise. And in the end, I like this look even better!
I haven’t added a greeting yet; I’m waiting until I decide when to use it. Since I used unconventional Valentine’s Day colors for this card, I’m not sure if I’m going to use it as a Valentine’s Day card or birthday card. But I really like this combination of colors and will have to use it again even though several are retired Stampin’ Up! colors.
Here’s what I used to make this card:

What a fun card – I think you could use it for a few different occasions. I think Coastal Cabana is my favorite SU color – I’m really hoping it comes back in the next color refresh. That batch of in-colors were so pretty, I loved them all!

This is turning out to be one of my all time favorites!
