I made this special card for my granddaughter’s 13th birthday card. I’m posting it a little early since I put it in the mail yesterday for her February 12 birthday (hoping she doesn’t see my blog before receiving it). And yes, I’m on time for once in sending a card – my family will be shocked!
I made her card using the PCC229 challenge and I’m thrilled how this turned out, I hope she is too! I can’t believe she’s 13, but then again she is already 2″ taller than my 5’5″! She’s playing basketball now and got a chance to go see the Rice University women’s basketball game several weeks ago. Here’s hoping that she’ll continue playing and go on to do so in college!
I had a great time die cutting circles in all sizes using the the fun colors in the Party Animal DSP. Thanks goodness for the wonderful Layering Circles and the Stitched Shapes framelits. It makes it so easy to get perfect circles! I played around with various color combinations and I thought this one fit my granddaughter best. I wanted to use the “numbers” paper, hoping I could highlight the number “13” on it, but when I colored it in, the colors got muddy rather than stand out. So I pulled my retired File Tabs edgeless with a “1” and “3” that were the perfect size for the paper. Before adhering the circles, I drew a faint pencil line around them, then pulled out my Gorgeous Grunge stamp set to stamp all the confetti colors on the card. That way I got the wonderful confetti look where I wanted it and the circles covered the stamped images I didn’t need. The banner and Happy Birthday are from Birthday Banners, cut out with the Bunch of Banners framelits dies. The bow was cut using the Balloon Popup thinlits. I cut off one loop and tail so it would not cover the greeting and added an enameled star shape.
Here’s the dimensions for the card:
- Whisper White card base cut 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ folded in half
- Pacific Point cut with largest Stitched Shape circle
- Watermelon Wonder cut with Layering Circles scalloped circle
- “Numbers” from Party Animal DPS also cut with the Layering Circles framelits
- Whisper White scrap for the birthday banner
- Emerald Envy scrap to cut the bow
- Pacific Point scrap to cut the numbers.

Actually it’s my granddaughter (OH!!). I’m hoping her mom doesn’t see this either until the snail mail card arrives. I was really “over the moon” on how this turned out!! I’m hoping it’s a special card for a special 13 year old’s birthday!
