Another great weekend creating and designing cards for me! I love participating in challenges since it gives me a basic start for my card inspriations. As usual, Connie Stewart’s Stampin’ Girls Gone Wild weekend challenge is a great one to get me going. This weekend I ended up creating two different cards using her template. The first card showcases one of the great prints from stampin’ Up!’s Festive Birthday DSP. I love this fun confetti print and thought it would make a great birthday card*.
I thought flowers when I saw the template and set out to create the card in my mind….hmmm. Didn’t quite work like I planned and after many different flower tries, I ended up using the Flourish thinlits dies and the Blossom Bunch punch, layered in coordinating colors for my first card. I cut the DSP and left the Crushed Curry card base peaking through for the band where I stamped my “happy birthday” greeting.
After looking at it for a while, I decided it didn’t do exactly what I was hoping, so back to my crafting table for another try. This time, I used the DSP confetti print as the band and used the Crushed Curry frame over a Whisper White card base for most of the card.
Of course, I had to emboss the background with the Falling Petals embossing folder because it looked so plain without it! This time I only used the Blossom Bunch punch to create the flowers and added a enameled shape star in the center of each flower. Slightly different looks using the same template.
Here’s how I created the top card:
- I used the Crushed Curry as a card base cut at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ folded in half
- I cut the DSP at 5-1/4″ x 3-1/4″ and cut a 3/4″ strip from that to create the two pieces
- I punched the flowers from Tempting Turquoise, Crushed Curry, and Melon Mambo, all coordinating colors in the confetti DSP.
- I added Crushed Curry enameled circles for the flower centers, and added a few Tempting Turquoise ones for accents.
The bottom card was created by:
- This time, I used Whisper White as a card base cut at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ folded in half
- I cut a piece of Crushed Curry 5-1/4″ x 4″, then embossed it with the Falling Petals folder.
- I cut a piece the Festive Birthday confetti DAP at 5-1/4″ x 7/8″ strip and a 1-1/8″ x 5-1/4″ strip of Tempting Turquoise to go underneath it.
- I punched the flowers from Tempting Turquoise, Crushed Curry, and Melon Mambo, all coordinating colors in the confetti DSP.
- I added Tempting Turquoise enameled stars for the flower centers.
- And I stamped the greeting on the confetti DSP.
Here’s the supplies I used:

I think both versions turned out festive! I love how delicate the dies are for the flourishing collection, it lets the confetti paper show through a little. The falling petals EF is on my wishlist, and I think it might have to hop into my next order 🙂 It seems to add just the right amount of texture without being overpowering.
