Dragonflies in Flower & Field DSP gift card

January 27, 2021 Leave a Comment

I occasionally need a gift card holder card and I’m always looking for new ways to create them. I learned a new one from the “Creativate Winter 2021” online stamping retreat I attended. Very interesting card. It was part of a “Mystery Stamp” session. In the past, I’ve been successful in creating a card I liked during a mystery stamp, but this one through me for a loop. The supplies I picked before hand didn’t lend themselves to this style of card. After Sharon Armstrong revealed her finished card, I was able to rethink mine and replace a few pieces to finish my card.

Originally I had a tag for the bottom piece, but it was too big and awkward. Since I’d already stamped and punched the dragonfly for the center circle, I punched one out of the Field & Flower DSP. But you couldn’t really tell it was a dragonfly, so I stamped a dragonfly on the punched shape. Of course the wise saying of  “always stamp first, then punch/die cut it out afterwards” was ever so true for this one. The dragonfly doesn’t exactly line up, but I decided to go with it. It was a little tricky since only the dragonfly tail has a dimensional on it. The plain DSP cutout was too flimsy to hold it, so I punch a card stock one and adhered it to the back.

Where’s the gift card part you ask? Here’s the opened view of the card. The flap in front is actually a mountain fold (entire card was put on a 4-1/2″ x 11″ piece of Basic White cardstock. it was hard to get a picture of the entire card opened up. The Bumblebee polka dot piece is where you put your gift card. That top piece folds down and the left-hand corner tucks in under the dragonfly. Very unique card and after I figured out her directions, it was easy to put together.

I decided to stamp the dragonfly on a Shaded Spruce cardstock and punch it out so that it stands out more.

Then as I was showing my husband this card, he made another suggestion and I remembered the Dandy Garden DSP has dragonflies! So I punched a few of the DSP dragonflies and added them to this version – LOL!

Sometimes, your first version doesn’t quite work out. And neither does the 2nd, 3rd…you get the idea. Don’t give up if you don’t like your first version. Try playing with it before you toss it in the trash! Tell me which version do you like the best in the comments. This will definitely be a card layout I will try again. Next time I’ll make it without the gift card holder portion since the card has such an interesting way it opens.

Here’s what I used to make this card.
