Finally…a birthday card using something other than my favorite Balloon Adventures stamp set! Today’s cards are based on Jeanna Bohanon’s interpretation of last week’s tgifc94 layout. I loved what she did so I used her card as my inspiration.
I wanted to use some of the my Cupcake & Carousels DSP paper stack for a more subtle birthday card (such a deviation from my usual bright colors-LOL!). I created two versions for my SIP & Stamp class last Friday night (since I only had 1 pack of paper on hand, I had to use multiple designs).
The center squares happened quite by accident. I had a leftover 3″ x 3″ square of Early Espresso from which I cut the center out using the largest Stitched Shapes square die. As I was looking at it, I had a random thought, or maybe not so random. I like to use as much of my DSP and cardstock as I can when I am crafting. I loved the Early Espresso frame and thought why not use it with the Bermuda Bay square? The die left an impression on the thin border like a frame. So I cut another one using a Bermuda Bay 3″ x 3″ square and reversed the two inside pieces. I loved the way they turned out! And I didn’t have the extra weight of several layers of cardstock, hence saving on postage to mail the cards!
Here’s how I made the cards:
- Very Vanilla card bases cut at 5-1/’2″ x 8-1/2″ folded in half
- Bermuda Bay and Early Espresso each cut at 5-1/4″ x 4″
- Cupcakes & Carrousels DSP each cut at 5″ x 3-3/4″
- 3″ x 3″ pieces of Early Espresso and Bermuda Bay, then die cut the center out of each using the largest square in the Stitched Shapes framelits
- On the top card I used a 2-1/4″ piece of the retired Naturals White to cut the center circle cut using the Stitched Shapes circle
- So Saffron 2-1/2″ circles to cut two sizes of Layering Circle framelits
- I fussed with the “It’s Your Big Day!” stamp to fit the framelits circle shape (they are malleable, but it took a little futzing to get it to stay on the block in that shape. I wanted it to match the circle shape at the bottom). I stamped it in Early Espresso.
- I stamped the balloon in Bermuda Bay
- I added a Bermuda Bay bakers twine bow (see Megan Dave’s #10-second bow maker – OMG, you have to get one (and I don’t get anything for this link, I just love her invention!!! It makes perfect bows in many sizes in seconds!! I’ve have mine for 2-3 years now and wish I had gotten it sooner since it has made my “bow-tying” life so easy)
- On the bottom card, I used a 2-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla to cut the center circle cut using the Stitched Shapes circle
- Calypso Coral 2-1/2″ circles to cut with the Layering Circle framelits
- Again, I fussed with the “It’s Your Big Day!” stamp to fit the framelits circle shape and stamped it in Early Espresso
- Again, I stamped the balloon in Bermuda Bay
- On this card, I added a Early Espresso bakers twine bow (see note above about the easiest way ever to tie bows!!)
