I’ve been battling the flu all week thanks to my dear husband who was sick all last week. If you know him, you know he was really under the weather because he stayed home all week from work! By last Sunday morning I thought I was in the clear from getting it from him. But alas…it was not to be. By Sunday evening I was coming down with the same symptoms, runny nose, coughing, fever, chills – argh. We both get the flu shot every year and they always seem to work for us until this year. Neither of us have been this sick for years! Luckily, I got a lot of cards made last week before I got sick since all I’ve been able to do was sleep and lay still.
Finally, yesterday late afternoon I was feeling better and got a spurt of energy . I took advantage of that time and made two challenge cards. Today I’m sharing my MOJO482 template card.
As I was planning this card, I used a framed artist heart I’ve had for many, many years as an inspiration for this card’s heart. You can’t really tell, but it has beautiful gold ribbon wound around the heart, gold flecks on the background and a gold charm. I love this art piece.
Anyway, back to my card. As I was looking through my paper scraps, I came across one of my favorite Valentine’s Day papers from the 2015 Stacked with Love DSP. I used that as the background for my card. I played around with other leftover scraps, but finally decided to use one of the designs from this year’s Sealed with Love DSP stack. Here’s my first card.
I love the way the black frames make the small squares pop, but the heart with my feathery, tassel trim ribbon just fades into the background. So I carefully pried it off my card (whew, for once it came off clean!), put a larger black heart behind it. I did have to trim the black heart down because it was too much black. But I like this version better since now you can really see the heart on the card.
If I had to do it over, again, I would probably make the back circle black, then layer a thin white border, then a red one so that it blended better overall on the card. But I decided to leave it be, my dear hubby will love it just as it is.
I used lots for framelits for this card, Circles, Stitched Shapes Sweet & Sassy, and Layering Squares. I love my framelits and thinlits dies!! And I used both new and retired Stampin’ Up! products on this card, including the Clear Trim Tinsel from the Stampin’ Up! holiday catalog several years ago.

Thanks Tina, I like black with the Red & White themes…it does make them standout so much better.
