Well it’s definitely not snowing in south Texas, although we are finally getting cooler weather! I wanted create a card to remind me of Christmas and snow. I started out with my new Swirly Snowflakes thinlits dies to create a card. I tried die cutting silver foil paper, white, and even the Night of Navy cardstock, but no matter what I tried, it wasn’t working. So I set those pieces aside (for more ideas to percolate) and pulled out the Winter Wonder TIEF again for today’s card. If you missed yesterday’s card made with this TIEF, see it here.
I started out this time by embossing the snowflake directly onto the Night of Navy card base. I stamped the “’tis the season” greeting from the Merry Patterns hostess set with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with White Stampin’ embossing powder. It looked a little too plain for me, so I die cut two snowflakes using the Starlight thinlits from the Silver Foil paper. I added a rhinestone gem that I painted with a Sharpie pen. Hmm…still missing something and the snowflake doesn’t stand out on the Night of Navy cardbase. So out came my sponge daubers and my Craft Whisper White ink pad. I added the white to the embossed snowflake. Here’s that card version – what do you think?
I decided it needed more white and here’s the result. Still not grabbing me, what about you?
So I pulled off the bottom silver snowflake and added one cut out of the Gold Foil paper…okay, that’s better. But now the sponged on white looks messy to me. So I’m still playing and tweaking the technique. I’ll post the final card when I get it to a point that it grabs me! Once I’m pleased with the results, this will be the final card in my 4-card set of Blue, Silver and white Holiday card series for my upcoming Stamp a Stack event.
Here’s what I used to make this card:
