Babies, babies and quilts for babies!

Many years ago (I won’t admit how long ago) I made a baby quilt for each of my new nieces and nephews when they were born. I know some of them still have them and keep them safely tucked away as a sweet memory of growing up. Sad to say, the grand nieces and nephews haven’t been quite as lucky to receive a handmade quilt from me. But I did create a darling baby quilt card that I can use for my new and maybe future grand nieces and nephews! Yesterday’s post I showed you the Lone Star quilt DSP pattern and the Quilt Builder framelits. Today I used those framelits to create paper quilts on my baby cards!

Here’s my baby boy card:

And here my baby girl card:

I started by cutting out the quilted outline in Blushing Bride and Lemon Lime Twist, colors I pulled from the Birthday Memories DSP (another DSP on the Buy3-Get 1 free sale through October 31!). Then I cut a number of quilt frames and pieces from a variety of the Birthday Memories DSP. And then the fun began…just like putting a real quilt together! I played around with the patterns and colors until I had combinations that I like for each card. That’s when I pieced together the pieces back into the quilt frame to create the wonderful quilt “tops.” When I had it all glued down, I used the quilt top stitching framelit to create the stitching look. Yes, these cards are a little more involved and more work, but don’t they look so much like a real quilt top?

And the “Oh, Oh, Oh” greeting? It came from my Oh, What Fun Christmas stamps set…”Ho Ho Ho” turned upside down – LOL! The “sweet new baby” came from Milestone Moments stamp set. I added die cut stars (from the Quilt Builders framelits) to the little boy’s card and flowers (also from the Quilt Builders framelits) with pearl bling to the girl’s card.

Here’s what I used to make these cards:

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a great crafting weekend a head of you. I have one of my sisters, her childhood friend and my niece coming to visit for my sister’s 61st (oh dear…that is telling for my age isn’t it?) birthday celebration, so no crafting for me this weekend. But it will be fun to celebrate with them for her birthday!
