Hello You to another great year

One of the patterns in the Another Great Year kit was a Smokey Slate “heather” look, very plain and subtle. I tried to use this pattern with many different combinations of other Stampin’ Up! DSP and cardstock, but I couldn’t come up with a solution that I liked. So off to Pinterest (isn’t a great place for ideas? Just don’t let it suck you in too far, or you’ll spend hours, and hours looking and never get your cards made!). I ran across Rachel Tessman’s example here, and loved the idea. She used the washi tape from the kit, but I decided to use some of my retired Melon Mambo paper from the Brights DSP stack. I love Melon Mambo and Basic Black, so why not Smokey Slate? Here’s my card:

Doesn’t it remind you of a pair of comfy PJ’s? What a nice way to say hi to a friend and make they feel all snuggly inside – LOL! I used a piece of the Silver 1/8″ ribbon (on sale!) and tied it through the punched hole in the paper. I adhere the entire gray piece over the Melon Mambo stripe. After I finished, I realized I needed more Melon Mambo at the bottom to offset the Smokey Slate heather and balance with the greeting. So I added a snipped additional piece of the Melon Mambo stripe over the bottom for this look. The greeting, cut with the Hello You thinlits (also retiring, so sad!) in Melon Mambo was a little too bright, so I cut a second one from the middle of the Melon Mambo stripe (under my gray heather piece – luckily I hadn’t glued it down yet!). The reverse side pattern was tiny words, just enough contract to create a shadow effect and tone down the Melon Mambo version. Oh, a tip – be sure to put your word thinklits on the side you want showing! First time I cut it but the words were reverse/upside down – LOL! Lesson learned! I popped the entire piece up over the Smokey Slate card base with dimensionals. Again, another simple card with no stamps or ink involved! I let my Big Shot and dies do all the work!

Here’s what I used for this card:

Thanks for stopping by! Tomorrow I’ll have one more Paper Pumpkin alternative card from this kit to share with you.

I haven’t touched that paper pumpkin kit yet – loving all your alternative card ideas for it! I managed to snag a couple refills for the April kit and I’m super excited to play with that one.
