I was playing and designing cards with the May Flowers framelits dies this past weekend. The large main flower is stunning, especially when it’s overlaid on a dramatic color to highlight it. When I saw the PCC228 color challenge, a color combo I would not have ever thought about, I decided to give it a try.
I pulled out scraps of the colors and laid them out. I decided to use Smoky Slate for the card base and the other colors on top. After trying out several ideas, here’s my first card:
I thought the Blushing Bride flower on top of the deep Cherry Cobbler showcases the May Flower framelits die. But the greeting isn’t easily visible, especially in this photo. So back to the craft table and I tried several ideas. My final one was to use the Smoky Slate, stamp the “thinking of you” greeting from Sheltering Tree stamp set in Basic Gray.
I had to restrain myself from adding ribbon, embellishments or trying to dry emboss the card base. I wanted this to be a simple card that I could use as a sympathy or thinking of you card. It always seems like I need one when I least expect it and I have to scramble to make one. If I had to do it over, I would probably stamp the greeting in Basic Black to make it stand out just a little more. What do you think? Which layout is your favorite?
Here’s how I made the card.
- Smoky Slate card base cut 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ folded in half
- The Basic Gray and Cherry Cobbler pieces were both cut at 3-1/4″ x 2-1/2″ and I rounded the corners with the Project Life Corner punch
- I cut the largest flower from May Flowers Framelits dies in Blushing Bride.
- The filigree in Basic Gray and Cherry Cobbler were cut using the Flourish Thinlits die
- I stamped the greeting on Smoky Slate scrap and cut it to size.
Here’s the supplies I used:
